DIABETES EDUCATOR: This position is focused on educating patients and their families about diabetes and the self-management skills required. Education is offered to both inpatients and outpatients through individual visits and group classes. Utilizing the principles of adult learning, the concepts are adapted to meet the individual learners’ needs and are outcome-based to empower the patient or his caregiver. National standards for diabetes self-management education and project management principles provide the framework for diabetes education services structure, process, and outcomes.
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing; Incumbents must obtain BSN by January 2018. Certified diabetes educator within 2 years of eligibility; Registered Nurse
EXPERIENCE: 3-4 years Clinical Nursing; clinical nursing practice in an acute or related specialty field; 2-3 years patient education experience. Orienting/precepting newly hired nurses, guest lecturing, and providing unit in-services.
